Well Magenta likes to keep things interesting! I began having mild tightening in my abdomen Sunday afternoon. I related this to the face that I have a very hard time sitting still, and Chris and I were out enjoying the day, prob. walking a bit to far. The discomfort continued through out the evening, with the addition of some back aches and the general feeling of not being well.
I woke up Monday morning, and still wasn't feeling 100%, so I decided to take the day off to just re-coup and relax. I took it easy all day, but the tightening in my stomach continued and began to increase throughout the day. I thankfully I had a doctors' appt. that night, and upon meeting with my doctor, she sent me over to the hospital to get monitored and tested.
In the Maternity Trauma unit they hooked me up to a fetal heart beat monitor, as well as a monitor to check on the frequency and strength of the contractions. The contractions actually increased while at the hospital in both strength and duration so I was very glad that I was in their care. Long story short- we spent a few hours in the room (note to all expecting mothers- the beds in the Trauma unit are NOT comfortable- I don't think my backside has ever fallen asleep so many times!) They gave me 2 litters of fluids, Terbutaline to stop the contractions, and a few other pin pricks for fun (theirs, not mine)
The good news- The contractions subsided after the Terbutaline, and my cervix was still closed and not shortening (it shortens before you give birth). I'm still having mild hardening and tightening in my abdomen, but the doctors seem to feel that it's normal and are not concerned by it.
So, another attempt of Magenta to break free was thwarted... until next time!
