Longest 5 minutes

Listening to your baby scream as you listen on through a closed door has to be the longest 5 minutes in any parents life. You are silently willing them to realize that they can do whatever it is you are preparing them for, and praying that they realize this quickly.

In our case, it was Jocelyn realizing that she can flip back over onto her back from her stomach while in the crib. I watched her through the monitor struggling and working her arms and legs back and forth, willing her to just toss her weight to one side or the other. My heart ached and willed me to walk through the door and just pick her up, but my brain knew better. These are the struggles that we have to allow our babies to go through, and as long as that 5 minutes seems, it's what they need to either succeed, or decide that maybe sleeping on their stomachs isn't so bad (as J did).
