We are in the throws of the fabulous terrible two's. I've heard it said before how they can be rough, but when it's your own child, rough takes on a whole new meaning. Whining can go on for minutes at a time, and it's only one sentence repeated many, many times. "but I waaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnntttttttttt to weeeeaaaaarrrrrrrr itttttttttttttttttttttttttt." This often ends in a tantrum, only to quickly cease and for Jocelyn to come walking over asking "so how is your day going Mom?". I now have a tick in my neck that becomes more prevalent as the day wears on.
But enough complaining, every parent goes through these times. Jocelyn otherwise is doing great. She has become quite shoe obsessed and is very particular about which shoes she'd like to wear. Unfortunately, we don't always agree on the suitability of the shoes. Shiny black fancy shoes just aren't appropriate for the sprinkler park, no matter how much you want to wear them. Fortunately, my wise mother once told me, you don't argue with a two year old, you give them two options and that's it. This does work, but it doesn't prevent her from putting those black shiny shoes on each and every day and trying to sneak them out with her.
While at the shore last week, Jocelyn had her first experience of being dropped off at school/camp. 4 days of tears (but only while being dropped off) and the last day she was so pumped to be heading to the bakery after camp, we could have been dropping her into a den of lions, she would have ran in willingly.
She still loves to dress up and has recently found my closet full of shoes and heels (not sure how I avoided that before). After asking if she could try my shoes on, she loves to clamp around the apartment in my various heels (the higher the better.) The cutest is her reaction when a new pair is brought home "oooohhhhh mom, I like those! I like the bow/shininess/ heel/ color" The girl has a fetish. We were once walking out of the apartment and she turned to me, pointed at a woman walking down the street and said "oh wow mom, I like her shoes!" The woman had on stilettos that were shiny. Jocelyn had just turned 2.
Friends are still a very important part of Jocelyn's day. And by friends I of course mean the VIP's- Pooh, Minni and Micky. One of them comes with us almost everywhere. Since bringing Shea home, Jocelyn has taken their care up a level too. They now not only get their diapers changed, but they are burped, fed, bathed, wiped and put down for naps. She's a good Mommy to them. We listen to her in bed at night talking with them, and there are times that J has to take the strong roll with them. She can't let Pooh get away with jumping on the bed or Minnie running in the street. They need to be put into time-outs as well.
Jocelyn has a pretty amazing vocabulary for a 2 3/4 year old. She surpassed just full sentences months ago and comes up with new words and expressions daily.
